Wimbledon Adopts Video Challenge System in 2025.

The Championships tennis court with replay system

Wimbledon will follow the American and Aussie Opens in employing video review systems.

Replay technology are set to arrive at Wimbledon this year.

Competitors will gain the option to challenge particular decisions from the official, echoing the system currently in operation at each of the US Open and the Australian Open.

This innovation will be accessible on Centre Court and the number one court throughout the Championships and on the other four featured courts when they are staging singles contests.

This development follows just a season following the All England Club rolled out ELC, which terminated the 147-year role of line judges.

What Can Be Reviewed?

Competitors cannot to dispute the call of the ELC system, but are allowed to request the umpire to review specific decisions, such as:

  • If a ball has double-bounced.
  • Whether a shot made contact with an rival's racket or person on the way past.
  • Possible hindrance end of a point.

Notably, there is no cap on the amount of challenges a player can request.

Practical Application

An illustrative example occurred in Indian Wells last week, where Daniil Medvedev used the video challenge against Jack Draper.

The British player conceded it was a difficult call for the official, but thought his rival had "used the regulations effectively."

Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a video and ruled Draper was responsible for interference, granting the rally to his opponent.

Broader Adoption

This technology aren't new for major tournaments. The system was adopted at the US Open since 2023 and the Australian Open since 2025.

Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour plans to have video reviews in place at every one of its tournaments.

Additional Innovations

Another innovation at The Championships 2025 will be the introduction of graphical cues on scoreboards to support the verbal announcements from the electronic line calling system.

This solves situations where fans have occasionally been uncertain whether a ball was in or out.

Finally, with exactly 100 days to go until the beginning of the tournament, organizers have also announced an increase in daily capacity at the qualifiers in Roehampton.
