According to recent claims from a informant, Ghislaine Maxwell, now completing a 20-year prison term for sex-trafficking crimes, is allegedly readying a commutation application for consideration by the presidential administration.

Preferential Handling Claimed at Correctional Facility

Congressional Democrats on the House judiciary committee announced that a source provided evidence indicating the inmate is working on the commutation application. Additionally, they mentioned she has been receiving special treatment at the minimum-security facility in the Lone Star State.

Congressman Jamie Raskin, the top Democrat on the House judiciary committee, stated in a official statement that the prison’s warden was assisting Maxwell with document preparation and submission to support her bid for clemency.

The exact content of the “commutation application” are unknown, Raskin added.

Claimed Perks and Special Accommodations

Raskin states that, per the insider, the prisoner has been given specially prepared food that are “personally delivered” to her cell, and the warden has individually organized exclusive visits for her and her visitors.

The visits allegedly include a “special cordoned-off area” for visitors and a variety of food and drinks for her guests.

Those visiting Maxwell were also reportedly permitted to carry electronic devices, which Raskin described as an “unprecedented action” given the potential danger and potential for unsupervised contact.

In one alleged instance, when phone lines went down for other inmates, Maxwell was given specific instructions about who she should tell her contacts to contact and how staff would connect the communication to her.

Warden as “Personal Secretary”

The whistleblower further reportedly told congressional members that when the convict wanted to review and edit documents promptly, she reportedly employed the warden as her private aide.

The news release indicates that Maxwell’s correspondents would send files directly to the supervisor, who would provide them to Maxwell, for her to examine and change and provide them back to the warden to scan and provide to the original sender.

Extra Benefits Alleged

Other privileges reportedly provided to Maxwell include opportunities to interact with a service dog puppy – a perk typically prohibited – as well as exclusive nighttime use to the prison exercise area.

Maxwell’s attorney has not yet replied to a request for comment regarding the whistleblower’s claims.

Through a spokesperson, the presidential office said that it “does not comment” on potential clemency requests.

“Per the President's remarks, pardoning Ghislaine Maxwell is not something he has thought about,” the representative added.

Recent Background

Recently, it was reported that she told friends and family in emails from prison that she was “much happier” at the Texas facility than her previous prison.

In August, Maxwell was moved from a low-security prison in Tallahassee, Florida to the less restrictive prison in Texas, where most detainees are serving time for non-violent offenses and white-collar crimes.

The transfer, which experts described as exceptional, occurred just shortly following she was interviewed about the Epstein case by the senior justice official, Todd Blanche, who also once acted as Donald Trump's personal lawyer.

That interview came as the Trump administration was facing increasing scrutiny to disclose additional files related to the ongoing probe and amid intense speculation around the President's own personal ties to the disgraced financier and adjudicated criminal, who was found deceased in custody in 2019 while facing trial on sex-trafficking charges.

Lawmaker Reactions

Through the statement, Raskin also announced that he had sent a letter to the President, requesting explanations about the insider's claims, and urged the chief executive to reject Maxwell’s commutation request.

“It would be inappropriate to approve any type of pardon to this adjudicated and remorseless sex offender,” Raskin wrote in the document. “Your Administration should not be providing her with personal amenities, with canine interaction, with government agents attending to her requests, or with any preferential handling or institutional privilege at all.”

The congressman asked that Blanche attend a open legislative session to address the disclosures and also presented several inquiries to the President.

Raskin asked whether he had discussed a potential commutation for Maxwell with Blanche or others, whether he had directed him or anyone else to arrange Maxwell with the move or special conditions in detention, and whether Maxwell, her attorneys, family or representatives have made any promises to Trump or his attorneys.

Raskin has asked for a reply to the questions by 24 November.

Last month, the US supreme court rejected an appeal from Maxwell on her sex-trafficking conviction.
